Chunky Ham, Potato & Pea Chowder

A hearty chowder with gammon, potato, onion and peas.


  • 1 small baking potato (approx 250g), peeled and cut into 1cm cubes
  • 1 small onion (approx 110g), coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 smoked gammon steak, diced
  • 50g of frozen peas
  • 100ml of milk
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1/4 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 200ml vegetable stock, prepared according to the packet instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion for 2-3 minutes, or until soft. Add the gammon and cook for 3 minutes, stirring frequently.
  2. Add the potatoes, mixed herbs and stock. Season with salt and pepper and simmer for 10 minutes, or until the potato is tender. Lightly crush some of the potato against the side of the pan with a wooden spoon (this will help thicken the chowder).
  3. Add the peas and milk and simmer for 2-3 minutes. Serve immediately.
