Cheat's Boston Baked Beans

A mildly spicy one-pot dish with pork, beans and apple.


  • 1/3 small onion, chopped
  • 220g of baked beans
  • 1 eating apple, peeled, core removed and diced
  • 1 pork chop, bone removed and diced
  • 1/2 small garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • pinch of crushed chillies
  • 1/4 tsp English mustard
  • 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp mild chilli powder
  • 100ml vegetable stock
  • 1/2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar

  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion, garlic and pork for 3-4 minutes or until the onion is soft.
  2. Stir in the stock, mustard, vinegar, apple, chilli powder, crushed chillies, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Add the baked beans and cook for a further 3-4 minutes. Serve immediately.

Cook's tips

We've simplified this popular Boston dish to make it easier and cheaper... The traditional version includes molasses and dried beans which we have substituted with brown sugar and baked beans.
