Bangers & Mash

A classic British dish - sausages and creamy mashed potato served with a delicious onion gravy.


  • 3 pork sausages
  • 1/3 small onion, sliced
  • 1 medium baking potato (approx 320g), peeled and diced
  • 1 tsp margarine/butter
  • gravy granules to make 150ml gravy
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp English mustard
  • 1 tsp olive oil

  1. Cook the potato in lightly salted boiling water for 8-10 minutes, or until tender.
  2. Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a saucepan and gently fry the sausages and onion over a medium heat for 8-10 minutes, or until the sausages are cooked and evenly browned. Remove the sausages from the pan and set aside. Prepare the gravy according to the packet instructions and pour into the pan with the onions. Heat until piping hot, then set aside.
  3. Drain the potato and mash with the margarine/butter, mustard and milk until smooth and creamy. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  4. To serve, spoon the mash onto a plate with the sausages and pour on the onion gravy.
