Bangers & Mash

Classic sausages and mash with a delicious red onion gravy.


  • 1/3 small red onion, sliced
  • 1 medium baking potato (approx 320g), peeled and diced
  • 3 value sausages
  • 1 tsp vegetable oil
  • 75 ml gravy, made up from gravy granules
  • 1 tsp margarine/butter
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp English mustard

  1. Preheat the grill. Cook the potato in lightly salted boiling water for 10 minutes, or until tender.
  2. While the potatoes are cooking, separate and pierce the sausages and grill them for 10 minutes, turning occasionally, or until cooked.
  3. To make the red onion gravy, heat the oil in a saucepan and fry the onion for 3-4 minutes, or until soft. Pour in the gravy and simmer until it thickens.
  4. Drain the potato and mash with the butter/margarine, mustard and milk until creamy.
  5. To serve, spoon the mash onto a plate, top with the sausages and pour over the gravy.
