Parmesan & Oat Crusted Chicken

One of our delicious lower calorie recipes. This Parmesan & Oat Crusted Chicken is part of our Lower Calorie Suppers meal plan for 2.

If like me, you started the New Year with all sorts of resolutions to save money and get in shape, and you're starting to run out of motivation half way through January, then perhaps The Resourceful Cook can help.

“Our new lower calorie meal plans and our calorie count and 5-a-day tools make it easy to eat well and save money while you're at it.”We've got new lower-calorie meal plans, 2-day guest memberships for Fitness-First gyms for our users, and we've added brand new calorie counting and five-a-day tools to the site.

It can be pretty difficult to be disciplined about what you eat or how much you spend, and there are always plenty of temptations and distractions to prevent you from staying on track, but it's often just the practical side of things that can make good intentions hard to stick to... it's actually not that easy to eat well, and cost effectively, without help and information. Our new healthy meal planning tools can help on that front. Our new lower calorie meal plans and our calorie count and 5-a-day tools make it easy to eat well and save money while you do so.

Time to shed those festive pounds?

Personally, I got a little carried away with the festivities - I can't resist the chocolates, and there seemed to be an endless supply in the house. Like a lot of people, I've often 'detoxed' in the New Year, but not this year - it's too complicated with a 15-month old toddler and a family to feed as well. The extent of my ambition this year is to stick with a healthy, balanced diet as much as possible.

With that in mind, the team have been putting together meal plans that are lower in calories: meal plans that don't sacrifice taste, quality or variety but average around 500 calories a serving. They're delicious and they eliminate all the effort usually required when counting calories. Here are a couple you might like to try:

Calorie Counts and Five-a-day

These days there's plenty of information on food labels to help us make informed choices about the food we eat, and most of us have at least a rough idea what our recommended daily calorie intake is - around 1,940 calories for women and 2,550 calories for men (it varies depending on your age and how active you are). But you'd need to have a lot of time on your hands to take the time to count all the calories on all your food labels in your weekly shop. That's were our calorie-count and five-a-day features come in.

You'll notice that all our recipes and meal plans now have calorie and five-a-day data showing. When you personalise meal plans, you'll see the data updating as you swap meals or adjust the number of days you're cooking on, or the number of people you're cooking for. That means you can see the impact of your meal choices on your waistline as you make them, and if you're being good, choose lighter meals.
